Convert AVIF to JPG on your Mac.
AVIF is the newest web image format — tiny files, but plenty of apps and forms don’t accept it yet. Clementine turns it into a JPG that every app understands.
Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask kapyar/tap/clementine
Your files never leave your Mac unless you share them.
How it works
Drag your AVIF images
From Finder, the Desktop, Mail or a browser — anywhere you can drag a file.
Tap ⇧, drop on JPG
Hold Shift (⇧) while dragging and a wheel appears around your pointer. Drop on JPG.
Done
You get JPGs that open everywhere. The original is never changed.
Why Clementine
No uploads and no waiting in a web converter’s queue — the conversion runs on your Mac’s own image engine.
- Decodes AVIF with macOS itself, colours included
- High-quality JPG output for printing, mail and forms
- Convert many files at once and keep their names
- Runs on your Mac — nothing is uploaded
JPG Saves a copy as JPG next to the original. The original stays as it is.
This is the wheel you’ll see. Point at other petals to see what else the file can do.
Questions
What is an AVIF file?
An image format based on the AV1 video codec. Websites use it because it’s even smaller than WebP.
Can Clementine also save AVIF?
Yes. Drop JPG, PNG or HEIC images on AVIF on the same wheel to make compact AVIF copies.
