Convert WebP to JPG on your Mac.

Browsers love WebP; older apps, print shops and upload forms often don’t. Clementine turns the .webp files you saved into ordinary JPGs that open anywhere.

Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask kapyar/tap/clementine

Your files never leave your Mac unless you share them.

How it works

  1. Drag your WebP images

From Finder, the Desktop, Mail or a browser — anywhere you can drag a file.

  2. Tap ⇧, drop on JPG

Hold Shift (⇧) while dragging and a wheel appears around your pointer. Drop on JPG.

  3. Done

You get JPGs next to the originals. The original is never changed.

Why Clementine

Images you save from websites can be screenshots of private pages, receipts or chats. Converting them on your Mac means they don’t take a second trip to some converter’s server.

  • Works on a single image or a whole Downloads folder of them
  • Transparent areas become white, since JPG has no transparency
  • High-quality JPG (about 90%), so the picture looks the same
  • Runs on your Mac — nothing is uploaded

JPG Saves a copy as JPG next to the original. The original stays as it is.

This is the wheel you’ll see. Point at other petals to see what else the file can do.

Questions

Why do I keep getting WebP files?

Most sites now serve WebP because it’s smaller than JPG. When you save the image, you get the WebP the site sent you.

Should I pick JPG or PNG?

JPG for photos — it’s smaller. PNG if the image has transparency or sharp text you don’t want softened. Clementine’s wheel offers both.

Do animated WebPs work?

JPG can only hold one frame, so you get the first frame. Convert to GIF instead to keep the animation.
