Convert HEIC to PNG on your Mac.
HEIC is great on an iPhone and awkward everywhere else. When you need a lossless file for editing or a tool that only takes PNG, drop the photos on PNG and you’re done.
Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask kapyar/tap/clementine
Your files never leave your Mac unless you share them.
How it works
Drag your HEIC photos
From Finder, the Desktop, Mail or a browser — anywhere you can drag a file.
Tap ⇧, drop on PNG
Hold Shift (⇧) while dragging and a wheel appears around your pointer. Drop on PNG.
Done
You get PNG files beside the originals. The original is never changed.
Why Clementine
Phone photos carry faces, homes and, in their metadata, the exact place they were taken. Clementine converts them on your Mac — no account, no upload, no copy left on a server.
- Lossless output, ideal for editing and retouching
- Keeps the photo’s full resolution and colour
- Batch-convert an AirDrop full of photos at once
- Runs on your Mac — nothing is uploaded
PNG Saves a copy as PNG next to the original. The original stays as it is.
This is the wheel you’ll see. Point at other petals to see what else the file can do.
Questions
HEIC to PNG or HEIC to JPG?
JPG for sharing and email — much smaller. PNG when you’ll edit the photo or a tool specifically asks for PNG.
Does it keep the location?
By default photo details are kept. Turn off “Keep camera, date and location info” in Settings › Output, or run Remove All Metadata afterwards.
