Convert JPG to PNG on your Mac.
Some tools, templates and app stores insist on PNG. Clementine saves your JPGs as PNG without recompressing them again — what you see is exactly what you keep.
Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask kapyar/tap/clementine
Your files never leave your Mac unless you share them.
How it works
Drag your JPG photos
From Finder, the Desktop, Mail or a browser — anywhere you can drag a file.
Tap ⇧, drop on PNG
Hold Shift (⇧) while dragging and a wheel appears around your pointer. Drop on PNG.
Done
You get PNG copies, originals untouched. The original is never changed.
Why Clementine
Design assets, product shots and ID scans are exactly the files you shouldn’t hand to a random website. Clementine converts them with macOS’s own image engine, offline.
- Lossless from here on: no further JPEG artefacts when you edit and re-save
- Keeps colour profiles such as Display P3
- Convert dozens of images in one drop
- Runs on your Mac — nothing is uploaded
PNG Saves a copy as PNG next to the original. The original stays as it is.
This is the wheel you’ll see. Point at other petals to see what else the file can do.
Questions
Will PNG make my photo better?
No — it can’t restore detail JPG already threw away. It stops further loss, which matters if you’ll edit and save the image again.
Why is the PNG so much bigger?
PNG is lossless, so photos take 3–6× the space. For sharing, keep the JPG; use the PNG for editing.
Can I make the background transparent?
Converting doesn’t remove the background. Use Remove Background on the ⌘ wheel — it saves a PNG with transparency.
