Get the text out of a PDF on your Mac.
Copying text out of a PDF page by page is painful. Drop the PDF on TXT and you get the whole document’s text in one file — or choose MD for Markdown.
Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask kapyar/tap/clementine
Your files never leave your Mac unless you share them.
How it works
Drag your PDF
From Finder, the Desktop, Mail or a browser — anywhere you can drag a file.
Tap ⇧, drop on TXT
Hold Shift (⇧) while dragging and a wheel appears around your pointer. Drop on TXT.
Done
You get a .txt with all the text. The original is never changed.
Why Clementine
Contracts and reports can be read by software you choose, after the text is extracted on your Mac — not by an online converter first.
- All pages in one plain-text file
- Markdown option for headings and lists
- Perfect for pasting into notes or AI tools
- Runs on your Mac — nothing is uploaded
TXT Saves a copy as TXT next to the original. The original stays as it is.
This is the wheel you’ll see. Point at other petals to see what else the file can do.
Questions
My PDF is a scan — I get nothing.
Scans are pictures of text. Run Make Searchable (OCR) or Extract Text (OCR) first; recognition happens on your Mac.
Is the layout kept?
Plain text has no layout. For an editable document with formatting, use PDF to Word.
