Convert PDF to EPUB on your Mac.
A PDF is a fixed page — miserable to read on a phone. As an EPUB the text reflows to the screen, the font size is yours and Apple Books remembers where you were.
Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask kapyar/tap/clementine
Your files never leave your Mac unless you share them.
How it works
Drag your PDF
From Finder, the Desktop, Mail or a browser — anywhere you can drag a file.
Tap ⇧, drop on EPUB
Hold Shift (⇧) while dragging and a wheel appears around your pointer. Drop on EPUB.
Done
You get an EPUB for Apple Books and e-readers. The original is never changed.
Why Clementine
Manuscripts and paid e-books are converted on your Mac, not uploaded to a conversion site.
- Text reflows to any screen size
- Paragraphs are rebuilt from the PDF’s lines
- Opens in Apple Books, Kobo, Calibre and most readers
- Runs on your Mac — nothing is uploaded
EPUB Saves a copy as EPUB next to the original. The original stays as it is.
This is the wheel you’ll see. Point at other petals to see what else the file can do.
Questions
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
EPUB needs real text. For scans, run Make Searchable (OCR) first, then convert.
Are images and tables kept?
The EPUB focuses on the text. Complex layouts, tables and figures are best read in the original PDF.
