Video
Convert MP4 to WebM on your Mac.
WebM with VP9 is the open web’s video format — great for background videos and web apps. Clementine encodes it from any video with one drop.
Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask kapyar/tap/clementine
Your files never leave your Mac unless you share them.
How it works
Drag your MP4 or MOV
From Finder, the Desktop, Mail or a browser — anywhere you can drag a file.
Tap ⇧, drop on WEBM
Hold Shift (⇧) while dragging and a wheel appears around your pointer. Drop on WEBM.
Done
You get a WebM (VP9 + Opus). The original is never changed.
Why Clementine
Product videos and unreleased footage are encoded on your Mac, not in somebody else’s cloud.
- VP9 video with Opus audio
- Quality-based encoding for a good size-to-quality balance
- Works from MOV, MP4, MKV, AVI and more
- Runs on your Mac — nothing is uploaded
WEBM Saves a copy as WEBM next to the original. The original stays as it is.
This is the wheel you’ll see. Point at other petals to see what else the file can do.
Questions
Should my website use WebM or MP4?
Offer both if you can: WebM first, MP4 as the fallback. Every modern browser plays MP4; WebM is often smaller.
Why does encoding take longer than MP4?
VP9 is a slower, more efficient codec. Expect it to take a few times longer than an MP4 conversion.
