Make a favicon: PNG to ICO on your Mac.

Every website wants a favicon.ico, and Windows wants .ico icons. Drop your logo on ICO and Clementine builds a proper multi-size icon file — no icon editor needed.

Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask kapyar/tap/clementine

Your files never leave your Mac unless you share them.

How it works

  1. Drag your logo (PNG or JPG)

From Finder, the Desktop, Mail or a browser — anywhere you can drag a file.

  2. Tap ⇧, drop on ICO

Hold Shift (⇧) while dragging and a wheel appears around your pointer. Drop on ICO.

  3. Done

You get a favicon.ico with six sizes inside. The original is never changed.

Why Clementine

Your brand assets don’t need to visit a favicon-generator site. Clementine writes the ICO with macOS’s own image tools.

  • Six sizes in one file: 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 px
  • Non-square images are fitted onto a square canvas
  • Transparency from PNG logos is kept
  • Runs on your Mac — nothing is uploaded

ICO Saves a copy as ICO next to the original. The original stays as it is.

This is the wheel you’ll see. Point at other petals to see what else the file can do.

Questions

What size should my logo be?

Start from 512 px or larger. Clementine scales it down for each size; simple, bold shapes read best at 16 px.

Do I still need favicon.ico?

Modern browsers also use PNG icons, but favicon.ico at the site root is still what many tools and browsers look for first.

Can it make Mac app icons too?

Yes — Convert to App Icon (ICNS) is in the Find a Tool palette for the same image.

175 tools. One gesture.

PNG to ICO is one of them. Get Clementine on the Mac App Store.
