Convert FLAC to MP3 on your Mac.
FLAC is the archivist’s choice — and too big or unsupported for many players. Convert copies to MP3 for everyday listening and keep the FLACs as your masters.
Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask kapyar/tap/clementine
Your files never leave your Mac unless you share them.
How it works
Drag your FLAC tracks
From Finder, the Desktop, Mail or a browser — anywhere you can drag a file.
Tap ⇧, drop on MP3
Hold Shift (⇧) while dragging and a wheel appears around your pointer. Drop on MP3.
Done
You get tagged MP3 copies. The original is never changed.
Why Clementine
Your music library is converted on your Mac — no uploads, no accounts, no ads between tracks.
- Artist, album, track numbers and cover art are kept
- High-quality VBR MP3 from the lossless source
- Select a whole album folder’s tracks and drop once
- Runs on your Mac — nothing is uploaded
MP3 Saves a copy as MP3 next to the original. The original stays as it is.
This is the wheel you’ll see. Point at other petals to see what else the file can do.
Questions
Can I convert to ALAC or AAC instead?
Yes — M4A (AAC) is on the same wheel and plays natively in Apple Music. FLAC itself also plays in Apple Music on recent macOS.
Does it handle 24-bit FLAC?
Yes. Hi-res files are resampled to 48 kHz for MP3, which can’t store more.
