Audio
Convert WAV to MP3 on your Mac.
WAV is perfect for recording and mixing, but a three-minute song is 30 MB. As an MP3 it’s about 4 MB and plays on everything.
Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask kapyar/tap/clementine
Your files never leave your Mac unless you share them.
How it works
Drag your WAV files
From Finder, the Desktop, Mail or a browser — anywhere you can drag a file.
Tap ⇧, drop on MP3
Hold Shift (⇧) while dragging and a wheel appears around your pointer. Drop on MP3.
Done
You get MP3s about a tenth of the size. The original is never changed.
Why Clementine
Unreleased music and raw interviews stay on your Mac — no upload to a converter, no rights handed to anyone.
- High-quality VBR MP3 (LAME V2)
- Stereo kept; surround mixes are folded to stereo
- Drop a whole session’s bounces at once
- Runs on your Mac — nothing is uploaded
MP3 Saves a copy as MP3 next to the original. The original stays as it is.
This is the wheel you’ll see. Point at other petals to see what else the file can do.
Questions
Which bitrate does Clementine use?
LAME’s V2 VBR setting, around 170–210 kbps — transparent for most listeners.
My WAV is 96 kHz — is that a problem?
No. MP3 tops out at 48 kHz, so Clementine resamples it automatically.
